Licenses and Modules
Tape is sold as one-time licenses. Since 0.5.0 there are three, and the optional features are modules you can also buy one by one. Compare and buy on tapemusicsuite.com/license (opens in a new tab).
Plans
| License | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| V1 | $29.50 | The suite: desktop hub (Mac, Windows, Linux) or Docker on a NAS, iOS and Android apps, remote listening over your Personal Private Network, library ingest, tag editing, playlists, casting. V1 patch and minor updates. |
| V1 PRO | $69 | Everything in V1 plus the PRO package: duplicates, audio analysis (BPM, key, waveform), enrichment (MusicBrainz, Discogs, artwork), Catalog & Wishlist, collaborative playlists, DJ import and tag writer. |
| Lifetime | $99 | Every module, all future modules and all future updates, including future major versions. |
All three are one payment, no subscription. Without a license the hub plays for 20 hours of playback or 30 days, whichever comes first. Already own V1? Upgrade to V1 PRO for $39.50 (the price of the PRO package).
Modules
Optional features are modules. The app calls them Add-ons (Add-ons → Marketplace); the website calls them modules (tapemusicsuite.com/modules (opens in a new tab)). Same thing.
| Module | Price on its own | In V1 PRO | In Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duplicates | $8 | ✓ | ✓ |
| Audio analysis | $12 | ✓ | ✓ |
| Enrichment | $9 | ✓ | ✓ |
| Catalog & Wishlist | $6 | ✓ | ✓ |
| Collaborative playlists | $7 | ✓ | ✓ |
| DJ import | $9 | ✓ | ✓ |
| Tag writer | $5 | ✓ | ✓ |
| Casting (UPnP/DLNA) | Free | ✓ | ✓ |
| PRO package (all of the above for a V1) | $39.50 | – | – |
Bought one by one the PRO modules add up to $56; the PRO package is $39.50 (about 30% less).
Collaborative playlists covers shared playlists with other Tape Hubs and sharing a single track with another Tape Hub (Share → Share with another Tape Hub). Both ride on the Personal Private Network, and shared tracks play from the hub that shared them. Turn it off in Add-ons and those entry points disappear (nothing is deleted).
DJ import and tag writer are still part of the suite for every license; they become separate modules in a later version and stay included in V1 PRO and Lifetime.
Buying a module
- In the app: Add-ons → Marketplace → Buy. Checkout opens in your browser; the module activates when you come back.
- On the website: tapemusicsuite.com/modules (opens in a new tab). Pay with the same email as your license: the module unlocks on the hub's next license check (or right away with Settings → License → Check now).
Already have V1 and want everything? The PRO package ($39.50) costs less than its modules bought one by one.
Activating
- Buy a license; the license key arrives by email together with a recovery link.
- In Tape: Settings → License, paste the key. The license binds to this hub.
- Modules included in your plan, or bought with your email, appear as owned in Add-ons. Turn them on there.
A hub that cannot reach the license server keeps its modules for up to 60 days, then asks to reconnect.
On your phone
The mobile app checks paid modules with its own license, issued for that phone from the license of the hub it is paired to. A module shows up on the phone only when the phone's license includes it and the hub has it turned on, so changing the desktop alone cannot unlock anything on the phone. Free modules such as Casting follow the hub: the Cast button appears while Casting is on in the desktop Add-ons.
Licenses bought before 0.5.0
Nothing you bought is taken away:
- V1 bought before 7 October 2026 (at $100) works like V1 PRO: every PRO module is included.
- Lifetime licenses of any earlier offer (Lifetime, Remote Lifetime Launch/Standard, founding) include every module, now and future.
- Remote Monthly and Beta Access Pass holders keep the PRO modules while their license is active.
- Trials include the PRO modules while they last, so you can try the whole product.
Docker / NAS
The license works the same in Docker: activate it from the web UI's Settings → License. For headless setups a signed
entitlement can be passed in MUSIC_HUB_LICENSE_ENTITLEMENT_V2. Add stop_grace_period: 60s to the service (see
Docker Setup).
