Casting
The free Casting add-on sends audio to supported UPnP/DLNA and Google Cast devices. Turn it on in the hub's Add-ons first. A phone's Cast control also follows that hub setting; free Casting does not require a paid module grant, but playback still follows the hub's trial or license.
Cast from Desktop
- Turn on the receiver and put it on the same network as the hub.
- Open Add-ons and enable Casting.
- Start a track, open the player's Cast/output control and select the receiver.
- Wait for the receiver to begin playing. Check its name and status before changing tracks.
- Use the session's stop/disconnect control to end casting and choose local output again.
Chromecast, Google TV with Cast support, Cast speakers and UPnP/DLNA receivers use different protocols. Discovery alone does not prove every format or device will play successfully. AIFF and WMA may need conversion that is not available on the Cast route; try a known MP3, AAC or FLAC first. Support for a container does not guarantee support for every codec inside it.
From a phone
Phone casting differs between installed releases and beta work. Some builds control a receiver reached by the hub; newer beta builds can expose receivers on the phone's own Wi-Fi. Read the output sheet's description: it says which device sends the audio and which network contains the receiver.
Do not assume a newer beta screenshot describes your stable phone build. If there is no Cast control, check the hub add-on, the paired hub and the exact phone version before treating it as a discovery failure.
AirPlay
Hub Casting does not expose AirPlay-only receivers. On a Mac you can choose an AirPlay device as the system audio output for local playback. That is different from selecting a receiver through the Casting add-on.
No receiver appears
Confirm the receiver is awake, the relevant hub/phone is on its network, local-network permission is enabled and the network permits device discovery. Guest Wi-Fi or client isolation can block it. If your build casts from the hub, a TV near the phone on a different network will not automatically be reachable.
If a receiver connects but produces no audio, note its model, the file format and the displayed error. End the failed session and try a supported test track. A loading/connecting state is not proof that playback succeeded.
