Error codes

Error codes

When something goes wrong while scanning, pairing or connecting, the Tape phone app shows one short line, a hint and a code such as Error C201. Tap Help next to the code to land on its section below. If none of this helps, send the code to contact@tapemusicsuite.com.

Scanning and pairing

C101 · This isn't a Tape QR code

The camera read a QR code, but it is not one made by Tape. Open Tape on your computer, go to Connections → New connection and scan the QR shown there. Codes from screenshots of other apps, websites or old printouts will not work.

C102 · This QR code is incomplete

The QR is from Tape but lacks the address of your hub, usually because it was cropped, damaged, or made by a very old version. Show a fresh QR in Connections and scan it straight from the screen. If you entered an address by hand, check it is not empty.

C103 · That pairing code doesn't look right

The code you typed or scanned does not have the right format. Copy it again from Connections on your computer, without spaces or extra characters.

C104 · This QR code has expired

Pairing QR codes work once and only for a few minutes, for your security. Show a new QR in Connections on your computer and scan that one.

C105 · The pairing code wasn't accepted

Your hub rejected the code: it may have changed, or it belongs to another hub. Copy the current code from Connections on your computer and try again.

C106 · This phone isn't paired yet

Your hub is reachable, but this phone has never been paired with it (or its pairing was removed). Scan the QR from Connections on your computer once; after that the phone reconnects by itself.

C107 · Pairing didn't finish

Pairing started but the hub did not complete it, often because the QR was shown for too long or the computer went to sleep. Show a new QR in Connections and scan it again with Tape open on the computer.

Reaching your hub

C201 · Can't reach your hub

The phone could not talk to Tape on your computer. Check that:

  • Tape is open on the computer and the computer is awake.
  • The phone is on the same Wi‑Fi as the computer (not a guest network).
  • The computer's firewall allows Tape (macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security; Windows: allow Tape when asked).

Away from home you need the Personal Private Network instead; see C202 and Phone pairing & remote.

C202 · Can't reach your hub away from home

Away from your Wi‑Fi the phone uses the Personal Private Network to reach your hub. Keep Tape open on the computer, check it has internet, and try again. The phone must have been paired at least once; see Phone pairing & remote.

C203 · Connect to Wi‑Fi to pair

The first pairing has to happen on the same Wi‑Fi as your computer, unless first-time pairing off Wi‑Fi is turned on. Join the Wi‑Fi and scan again, or see C204.

C204 · Pairing away from home is turned off

Your hub only accepts first-time pairing on the same Wi‑Fi. Either pair at home, or in Tape on your computer open Connections and turn on first-time pairing off Wi‑Fi, then scan a new QR.

Licensing

C301 · Listening away from home needs a license

On the same Wi‑Fi Tape works without a license during the trial. Listening away from home needs an active license on the hub. Activate it in Tape on your computer (Settings → License), or connect on the same Wi‑Fi. See Licenses & modules.

Other

C901 · Couldn't connect

Something unexpected went wrong. Try again; if it keeps happening, restart Tape on the computer and the phone app. Then send the code and a diagnostics report (Settings → Export diagnostics on the computer) to support.

C902 · Connected, but your library didn't open

The phone reached your hub but could not load the library. Wait a moment (a large library may still be starting up) and try again. If it persists, see Troubleshooting.
